Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse

Siddhartha is a novel by German Nobel Prize-recipient Hermann Hesse. It revolves around the life and learnings of Siddhartha, an intelligent and spiritual young man of the Brahmin cast. The novel follows his spiritual growth and troubles with conventional religion. He spends time as an ascetic with the Samanas, meets his namesake Siddhartha Gautama (also known as the Buddha) and falls in love with a courtesan. Not only is this a fascinating way to be introduced into the mind-set of buddhism, but it is also a eloquently written story of life and temperance and virtue. Take a break, add a cup of tea and learn a thing or two about the values of life.

Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.

  • Du har noe å se frem til. Dette er en bok full av stillhet, hvis det utsagnet gir noen mening. En bok du tenker mye på i ettertid. Eller, jeg har ihvertfall gjort det.
