Bestfriends. They might not live in the same city as you. You might not talk to them every day. But when you meet them once in a while it always feels right. Never constrained. Never awkward. As I grow older I am starting to realize which people I want to keep in my life, and what kind of people I can happily cut out permanently. And throw out inthe cold. permanently. Without a scarf. Or socks.
I have spent the last couple of days with some of the people I definitely intend to keep in my small, but very treasured collection labeled “friends 4 life”, and it’s been great. Now, if I could only move all of them to Hawaii so I could see them more than a couple of months (tops) a year, that would be kind of, sort of perfect.
Tonight we’re drinking to friendship, and the new year.
