The reading challenge

books

Hello, friends. As usual, it’s been a while. I have returned to my corner of the interweb to post a New Year’s resolution of sorts. Somehow, posting it here makes it more official, and since I am devoted to this resolution this year, I will give this a shot.

As a former English Literature major, former bookstore clerk and all around bookworm, the dry spell I’ve been going through in the reading department the last couple of years has been depressing. After narrowly failing to reach the modest goal of 25 books in 2016, I’ve come to the realization that I need to be more proactive in 2017. As a result, I’ve become more active on Goodreads the last two months, and I’ve joined one of the reading challenge groups. In it, you start a new thread, lay out your challenge for the coming year, and then update it whenever you’ve crossed something off your reading list.

For my 2017-list, I’ve decided that my challenge will be a list of 20 items. It is inspired by the “Modern Mrs. Darcy’s 12 books in 12 different categories”-challenge, but with my own additions:

My 2017-list:

1. A book published this year
2. A book you can finish in one day
3. A book you have been meaning to read
4. A book recommended by your local librarian/bookseller
5. A book you should have read in school
6. A book set during wartime
7. A book chosen for you by someone you don’t know
8. A book published before you were born
9. A play
10. A book that was banned at some point
11. A book you previously abandoned
12. A book about robots
13. A book you own but have never read
14. A book that intimidates you
15. A book you have read at least once
16. A book written by Umberto Eco
17. A classic you had never heard of
18. A biography
19. A book with a green cover
20. A book by an author from a country you’ve never visited

Hopefully, I’ll get back into my former habit of reading all the time, everywhere, and read more than 35 books in 2017.

Follow me on Goodreads here, and if you have recommendations for books I should add to my “to read”-list for 2017, let me know (in the comments below)!
